Breast Reduction

Breast Reduction Surgery

Breast reduction, also known as reduction mammaplasty, is a surgical procedure to reduce the size of the breasts by removing fat, excess breast tissue and skin. If you have large breasts, you might choose to have a breast reduction surgery to ease discomfort or to achieve a breast size proportionate to your body.

Is a Breast Reduction for Me?

Patients would choose this procedure is they are bothered by:

  • Large Breasts
  • Breast related neck and back pain
  • Sagging breasts
  • Excessively dense breast tissue

How is a Breast Reduction Performed?

This procedure is usually done under general anesthesia either in the hospital or in the comfort of Dr Deon’s rooms. Depending on the patient, this procedure will be done through small incisions, where liposuction will take place to remove the excess fat in the breasts. Then the breasts are reshaped and the nipple and areola are repositioned.

Healing and Recovery

After the procedure, your breasts will be covered with gauze and a surgical support bra. Small tubes may be placed at the incision sites in your breasts to drain any excess blood or fluid. There may or may not be bruising, and swelling can last up to 2 weeks post-procedure, however, to get full results this could take up to 6 to 12 months. Physical activity will need to be limited for 2 to 4 weeks while the breasts heal.
