Cosmetic Enhancement Procedures For Men

Cosmetic Enhancement Procedures For Men

This week we share more about the Cosmetic Enhancement Procedures that are available for men. It is usually women who feel more comfortable talking about the cosmetic enhancement procedures that they are considering or have undertaken to rejuvenate their appearance and boost their self esteem.

But more men than ever before are choosing to have non-surgical and/or surgical procedures to help them regain self-confidence and maintain a youthful and energetic appearance.

1. Body
Most men undertake an exercise regime to trim their waistline and achieve the tight-and-toned look they desire. Sometimes however, despite the best efforts, diet and exercise is not enough. Liposuction is an effective option for treating common male trouble zones such as the love handles, chin and chest area (including treatment for Gynecomastia, or enlarged male breasts). Scarring is minimal so your contoured results can easily be attributed to some additional time hitting the gym. With the innovative Vaser procedure which we offer at DW Skin & Body more High Definition body sculpting, including the much desired six pack and chiseled chest, can be achieved.

2. Face
Women are not the only ones who desire youthful looking skin. Non and minimal invasive options such as neurotoxins and fillers provide an effective, natural looking, long lasting but non-permanent solution to the common signs of male ageing (wrinkles around the eyes, furrows on the brow and folds around the mouth). Blepharoplasty is an additional option for those suffering from drooping of the eyes or heavier eyelids. This surgical procedure removes and tightens excess eyelid skin for a more alert, youthful appearance.

Whichever options you are considering, from minimal non-invasive options to surgical procedures, a consultation with a board certified Plastic Surgeon will provide you with a bespoke package of treatments and procedures to achieve the type of natural looking results most men seek.

Breast Augmentation vs Breast Lift

Breast Augmentation vs Breast Lift

More women than ever before are opting for a breast enhancement procedure and if this is something you’re also considering then the best surgical option for you will ultimately depend on the results you’re hoping to achieve.

Two of the most popular procedures are breast augmentation and breast lift, but how do they differ and how do you know if it’s suitable for you?

Breast augmentation: What you need to know

Breast augmentation is primarily for women who hope to increase the overall size of their breasts. The procedure is also beneficial to patients who want volume or shape enhancements. Women who have experienced pregnancy or significant weight loss may also opt for this surgery to restore lost fullness.

When it comes to size and shape you have multiple options. Considerations such as your chest wall shape, your natural body form, your lifestyle, and your ultimate aesthetic goals all play a role in the decision making process. This week on my Vlog I talk about the innovative Polytech B-Lite Breast Implants developed to overcome the limitations of traditional breast implants by considerably reducing gravitational stress, providing natural fullness and feel with a significantly lighter implant weight.

Breast lift: What you need to know

Breast lifts are most beneficial to women who are only seeking to restore some of the natural youthfulness of their breasts, think of it as turning back the hands of time. Because this procedure does not add volume, it gives a very natural look and feel, which is a nice option for women who already have a good amount of natural breast tissue. It simply makes the breasts look firmer and perkier.

This procedure doesn’t involve implants at all. Rather, the surgeon manipulates the existing breast tissue in order to lift and tighten the breast.  This gives your breasts a more natural contour and improves any sagging, drooping or mild asymmetry you may be experiencing due to factors such as age, pregnancy or illness.

Which is better? Breast augmentation? Breast lift? Both?

Each procedure offers its own set of unique advantages and disadvantages. You must understand that a breast augmentation focuses on the size and shape of the breast and will not correct drooping breasts. Unlike breast augmentation, a breast lift focuses primarily on breast position and will not increase the size of your bust.

Can I get breast implants and a breast lift?

Often a breast lift is done in conjunction with breast augmentation so that the breasts can be restored to a more youthful position and a volume increase is added with the use of an implant. The combination of procedures will give you some upper breast fullness along with repositioning sagging breasts and nipple areas.

How do I know which procedure is right for me?

It can be difficult to know exactly which procedure or combination of procedures will help you achieve your aesthetic goals. Consulting with a professional, board-certified plastic surgeon will help you make that determination, get a realistic idea of what can be achieved, and tailor a treatment that’s specific to your unique body and goals.

Video transcript:

I’m Deon Weyers, and today I’m going to tell you more about B Lite Silicone implants.

In the female breast, the breast gland is supported high up on a chest wall by internal ligaments. These internal ligaments become stretched and they lose the elasticity as the breast ages, something, which is then accelerated by events such as pregnancy where the breast is enlarged in preparation for breast feeding but also with weight fluctuations where there’s a inflation and deflation effect on the size, volume, but also the weight of the breast. Some women might request a breast lift procedure, where the breast is re-positioned in it’s more pre-pregnancy, youthful state.

When we do a breast enlargement with using either fat or an implant we increase the size or volume of the breast but also the weight of the breast.

This is a regular, silicone gel implant. This high profile on a round base implant is a 360 CC or mill implant and it weighs about 360 grams. In B Lite silicone implants, the technology is such that the weight is 30% less than its silicone equivalent in size. In other words this 360 CC B Lite implant weighs 30% lower than its 360 regular silicone implant equivalent, making B Lite implants more desirable in woman where you want to delay the long term sagging and drooping effects and the aging effects of the breast and also woman who want just overall lighter feel when they’ve had an implant based breast enhancement.

Mommy Makeover

All About the “Mommy Makeover” procedure

DW Skin and Body offers a wide range of services and we want to share a bit more about each to try and answer as many of the frequently asked questions as possible.

While pregnancy and childbirth are momentous moments in any woman’s life, many women are less than thrilled with their post-baby body. The body stores fat differently during pregnancy to provide vital energy to mother and baby. The breasts may sag and appear deflated after breastfeeding, and the abdominal wall may not return to its original firmness. What is known as the “Mommy Makeover” has become one of the most popular combination plastic surgery techniques, designed specifically to address common issues faced by women who have been through pregnancy and breastfeeding. The surgical technique has found its way into mainstream media with it becoming the procedure of choice among Hollywood elite.

One reason for its popularity is that the mommy makeover has no set components; each procedure is custom-tailored to fit the individual patient’s unique needs. However, the surgical approach generally starts with a breast and abdomen contouring procedure (breast augmentation or a breast lift, 4D ultrasound liposculpture and tummy tuck), then adding additional elements as needed.

These procedures are performed in general theatre under general anaesthesia. The timing for this procedure may differ from patient to patient as it is tailored to address your needs.

This will vary according to your desired results. We set up a personal consultation where we discuss what it is that you would like and recommendations are made. It is difficult to pin point an exact estimate due to the personalisation of each, however, a starting price for the things such as the hospital, post-operative garments, anaesthetist and surgeon would start at about R75 000.00.

The miraDry System - The permanent solution to excessive sweating

The miraDry System – The permanent solution to excessive sweating

Everyone in the world sweats. That’s a bodily function that no one is immune to but unfortunately for some people, they suffer from “excessive sweating” and/or hyperhidrosis. This can be incredibly uncomfortable and make one self-conscious about themselves.

The miraDry system is the permanent solution to excessive sweating. It’s an “easy treatment that can be completed in a physician’s office in as little as one hour” (miraDryAfrica)

How does it work?

“What goes on during the treatment is actually pretty simple. The miraDry System uses thermal energy that targets and eliminates the sweat and odor glands in your underarm. Once those glands are eliminated, they do not grow back,” (miraDryAfrica) The procedure takes about an hour with a local anaesthetic applied to the area just before. Once the procedure is completed, the patient can return to normal activity but they will most likely experience swelling and heat sensation in the armpits.

There have been other solutions before, such as Botox which lasts about 5-6 months, but that does not address any of the odour issues that come along with excessive sweating. The miraDry is a permanent solution that tackles the sweat glands and helps address the odour component.

Will I sweat more now in other places?

Short answer – no.

The number of sweat glands in an adult is a fixed amount and there are no new sweat glands that are produced. There has been no proof to suggest that excessive sweating occurs in other places once you have completed the miraDry procedure.

The machine is FDA approved and has been around since 2011 but is only now hitting the South African market. DW Skin & Body has been chosen as one of the only two “miraDry Sweat Clinic Specialists” in Johannesburg and will have the exclusive machine available at the practice for 3 months. The arrival date of the machine is to be confirmed.
