South Africa
Rhinoplasty Surgery By Dr Deon Weyers In South Africa
Rhinoplasty, also known as a “nose job”, is a surgical cosmetic procedure that addresses the shape of the nose and dramatically improves the proportions of the face, applicable to the bridge, the tip, and nostril width of the nose. This procedure is also used to treat traumatic injury and breathing problems associated with the structure of the nose.
Is Rhinoplasty for Me?
This procedure is recommended for those with:
- A large/small nose
- Bump on the bridge
- Wide nose
- Enlarged/protruding/drooping nasal tip
- Flared or pinched nostrils
- Crooked or off-centered nose
- Traumatic nose injury
- Breathing difficulties
How is Rhinoplasty Performed?
This cosmetic procedure can be performed either using a closed procedure, where incisions are hidden inside the nose or an open procedure, where the incision would be made across the narrow strip of tissue that separates the nostrils, called the columella. Additional incisions may be required depending on the patient.
Healing and Recovery
After the procedure, the nose is supported with splints and gauze to allow healing. The nose is splinted for 7 to 12 days post-surgery, the majority of swelling will subside in 2 weeks post-surgery, however, the nose will take 6 to 12 months to settle into its new shape. Bruising around the nose and eyes can also be expected following the procedure, but will subside after 2 – 3 weeks post-surgery.
